More informations

Matt London – Tenor Saxophone | Dave Howard – Piano

The modern classical tenor saxophone, with its flamboyant, dynamic and versatile nature, offers the perfect channel for new and established composers to create fresh and original works.

This programme brings together some of the most innovative and celebrated UK composers working today; Peter Wiegold [BBC Proms 2007, BCMG Artist-in-Association & Composers Ensemble], and Christopher Fox [Darmstadt, EXAUDI and Ives Ensemble] who share an original and liberating approach to their writing. The programme also includes a new work by Matt London.

Introducing the instrument to new and established composers is at the heart of this programme, to broaden the repertoire, the instrument’s awareness to the public listener, and to offer insight into the instruments understanding and impression to that of the modern classical composer highlighting the leading role the UK takes at forefront of this exciting development.

It is my aim to make a significant contribution to increase the repertoire available to fellow tenor saxophonists by encouraging both established and new composers to write for the instrument, recording commissions and giving performances, as well as occasionally adding to the repertoire as a composer.

Matt has performed across the UK and beyond, including performances at the World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok and St Andrews supported by a coveted RVW Trust Commission Award.

His critically acclaimed debut album SPEAK NOW accompanied by Dave Howard showcases the versatility of the modern classical tenor saxophone through specially written works for the instrument by UK composers including; Richard Rodney Bennett, Cheryl Frances-Hoad, Andy Scott, Graham Fitkin and Geoff Eales.
