More informations

In this workshop, Derek discusses and demonstrates many of the various extended techniques he uses on the saxophone. These include more tradition techniques like slap tonguing, double tonguing, and multiphonics; as well as newer techniques (some of which Derek invented or helped refine) like tongue ramming, record “scratching” sounds, pitchless pops, high-hat clicks, etc. The audience is encouraged to simply listen or to participate with their own instruments.
After a brief demonstration, Derek will introduce each technique and work with participants on achieving/exploring these sounds and concepts. Throughout the presentation, Derek will stress the idea of self-exploration and innovation on the saxophone, discussing and displaying the vast sonic possibilities of the saxophone.
