Biography

Gail B. Levinsky is an associate professor of Music at Susquehanna University. An avid supporter of commissioning new works for saxophone, she has premiered compositions by Quayle, Clearfield, McConnell, and Bahr to name a few. In addition, she has edited a new addition of Rosemary Lang’s “Beginning Altissimo Studies,” published an anthology of works written for organ & saxophone that provides a technical and analytical resource for performers, and most recently the saxophone chapters for Teaching Woodwinds: A Guide for Students & Teachers. Dr. Levinsky received her DM, MM from Northwestern University, and BME from Butler University. She served as Treasurer and Secretary for NASA and presently serves as District VIII director.

More informations

Composer Mathew Quayle (b. 1964) has written several works for saxophone,
including “Sun Dance” for 2 Alto Saxophones and Piano. His new work will
showcase the saxophone within the traditional sonata form. Earmarked to be a
3 or 4 movement work, Dr. Quayle anticipates writing music that is meditative
and at times playful. I have asked that the overriding theme be based on a
concept of “Peace.” It is Dr. Quayle’s hope that this newly created work will
appeal to a wide audience. The Sonata for Alto Saxophone & Piano will be a
world-premiere for the World Congress.
