projet 2980 Duo Ambigue-768x1024

Biography

The duet Ambiguë consists of two saxophonists whose incredible musical encounter occurred in 2011 during a summer music workshop. Subsequently, the two young saxophonists who had the chance to perform in musical ensembles (duet, wind orchestra, and quartet) developed an extraordinary artistic collaboration. This positive experience encouraged Jennifer Lachaîne, recipient of a master’s degree in interpreting classical saxophone, and Florence Garneau, undergraduate student in interpreting classical saxophone, to form the duet Ambiguë. They also performed in a few occasions in concerts of the University of Montreal (chamber music, saxophone class) as well as in a concert presented by Les concerts de la Métropole, a Montreal concert society.

More informations

To fully understand the extent and starting point of the project, it is important to speak about the composer and his professional career path.

Prior to completing a bachelor at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, Charles-Philippe Tremblay-Bégin experienced the world of composition with Michel Tétrault, composer and responsible for the pre-university composition option at Cégep de Saint-Laurent. In 2014 he was awarded two prizes: the Socan prize for his piece of music Valsalva and the Société Italienne de Percussion prize for his piece of music Sounding cells. He is currently finishing a master’s degree under the supervision of Serge Provost. On the stage, his paramount wish is to share energy and story and connect with the audience. This is why he decided to distance himself from his first musical works and his experimental music band to propose performances bursting with a very rock attitude in mind instead of concerts.

Charles-Philippe Tremblay-Bégin reached a turning point in his life and wishes to explore new avenues. It is with this in mind that he wishes to compose his next piece of music “Waiting on a ghost”. This composition aims to propose a vision of how can sound the saxophone in the classical and modern music as well as in jazz and pop music following stars such as Coltrane, Mule, Londeix and bands such as Radiohead and Swans. This experimental challenge will be a unique experience for the composer, the interpreters, and the audience.

Currently in the process of composition, Charles-Philippe cooperates with the saxophonists Florence Garneau and Jennifer Lachaîne. Jennifer Lachaîne who collaborated on the world premiere of three music works during the last year and took part in a cooperation between the Laboratoire de Musique de Montréal and Black House Collective, devotes herself to the musical exploration and creation in cooperation with her colleague Florence and the composer Charles-Philippe. Florence Garneau feels passionately about the discovery of new musical repertoire and takes an active part in this remarkable and impressive musical experience. Together, the three performers are currently trying to push their limits and those of the instrument so as to present in July a preposterous work that will take performers and spectators outside their comfort zone!
