More informations

The classical saxophone in Austria is still a stranger amongst more traditional instruments.
Though there are more and more young saxophonists in Austria, playing at an international artistic level. Because of this situation one of our main goals must be to introduce as many people as possible into the sound of classical saxophone.
On the other hand we have a very strong and popular tradition of wind bands in Austria. So the idea of a new piece for saxophone quartet an wind band was born. 2013 we first met Thomas Doss, international renowed composer and conducter and commissioned him to write such a new piece.
In 2014 we premiered this great new concerto called “Spotlights 4 Sax 4″ successfully. Doss made an arrangement of the same piece for saxophone choir and quartet, which we will premiere in Strasbourg.

The SaxOpen is the perfect occasion to introduce the saxophone community into this new piece, which will hopefully be played many times in the future.

The other piece, Erkki Sven Tüür`s “Lamentatio”, fits very well to the title “Spotlights”, spotlighting different emotions and atmospheres through musical language.
