Biography

October 2007: under the name SIGMA PROJECT, four renowned saxophone soloists, firmly committed to musical creation –Andrés Gomis, Josetxo Silguero, Ángel Soria, Miguel Angel Lorente–, decided to revolutionize the landscape of Spanish chamber music… and enjoying themselves doing so.

Their commitment to renew not only the saxophone repertoire –with particular interest in symphonic works–but also the space and the staging of concerts, has aroused the interest of many composers, whose close collaboration with SIGMA PROJECT, have produced unusual premieres and recorded by labels such Deutsche Grammophon, Collegno, Verso and Sigma Records.

They have played in Europe, America and Asia.

More informations

Sigma Project is proud, since its beginnings in 2007, of being custodian of the trust and recognition of many Spanish composers currently frontline.
The quartet pursues, as one of its main goals, the defense, interpretation and dissemination of new music for the general public, with particular emphasis on the presentation of new creations and the approach to new sound concepts, increasing knowledge and deepening in the new languages and tools. The four members of Sigma Project –Andrés Gomis, Ángel Soria, Miguel Ángel Lorente and Josetxo Silguero, all of them musicians of renowned curriculum– have premiered works written for them by composers such as Felix Ibarrondo, José Manuel López López, Yair Klartag, Jesus Torres, Ramon Lazkano, Arturo Fuentes, Thierry Alla or Jose Maria Sanchez-Verdú.
The project presented here “World Saxophone Congress 2015” ffocuses on the works for saxophone by three of the most important actual Spanish composers, (Héctor Parra, José María Sánchez-Verdú and Juan María Cué). All these works are also the result of collaboration between the composers and Sigma Project, who has premiered the pieces. This program is put into dialogue with the work of two of the most original voices of contemporary composition in Italy: Simone Movio and Giorgio Netti.

Héctor Parra Work in progress* (2015)
(1976) for saxophone quartet

Simone Movio Zahir V (2011)

*world premiere

Hèctor Parra (Barcelona on 1976) has studied composition with Jonathan Harvey, Brian Ferneyhough as well as with Michael Jarrell in Geneva.
Premieres of his works have been performed by the Ensemble Intercontemporain and the Klangforum Wien.

Fundamental for Simone Movio’s (born 1978) education were and are the meetings with Beat Furrer, with whom he studied at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz (2005/2006), Rostock Summer Campus 2009 and IMPULS 2005, 2007, 2009.
