More informations

Indian music is the perfect vehicle for the dynamic and expressive nature of the saxophone.
The complex melodic movements allow the scope of this wind instrument to bring a new voice to an old tradition.
Intricate improvisations within the idiom of raga sit perfectly side by side with this western instrument.
To see and hear the saxophone played in a way that challenges the traditional approach to playing this instrument is in itself a beautiful triumph.

This 20 minute project recital will give a brief insight into the unique approach that Jesse has brought to the world stage in the last 24 years.

The recital will take the form of an Alap followed by Jor. These 2 sections in Indian Classical Music precede the bandish/composition in Indian Music.

The title of the piece will be Indian Raga. Jesse will select the specific raga once he knows what time the recital is.

He has developed, through rigorous study, many new techniques on the saxophone that will be received with pleasure from the saxophone community.

Having lived in India, studied with the worlds leading Indian Music performers (Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Rajan and Sajan Mishra and Pandit Bhuddadev Das Gupta) Jesse has developed a way to play saxophone that authentically replicates the “accent” of Indian music. This sound and accent was developed with the use of many years discovering and practicing new and advanced techniques on saxophone.

This approach of research and performance can easily be shared and given in a short space of time by Jesse, with his ability to integrate traditional teaching methods with contemporary approaches to music education.
